The town of Cochrane in Alberta was established in 1881 as the Cochrane Ranche, after Matthew Henry Cochrane, a local rancher. It was a village in 1903 but became a town 1971, intersected by Highway 1A and Highway 22.
Cochrane is also a small industrial area, industries include lumber, construction, retail, and ranching/farming. It is famous for being one of the few communities in Canada with no business tax.
Located 18 km West of the Calgary City limits along Highway 1A Cochrane is the second largest town in Alberta and one of the fastest growing communities in Canada. Bordering BEARSPAW the town is surrounded by ROCKY VIEW COUNTY and is situated at the base of Big Hill in The Bow River Valley. Mainly Single Family homes with various new communities but planning has also catered for Adult Living facilities, Townhouses Apartments and Side by Side / Half Duplex Homes.
