Sunnyside is one of Calgary's oldest communities. Settlers arrived in the 1880s, the land was purchased by the City of Calgary and incorporated in 1904. The majority of the original residents of Sunnyside were Canadian Pacific Railway and Eau Claire Sawmill workers. Today the community mainly attracts professionals and young families due to its quiet atmosphere and trendy shops although the community will miss the Sunnyside Home and Garden Centre.
