Situated in Calgary's northeast quadrant, Tuxedo Park is flanked by 32 Avenue N (north), Edmonton Trail (east), the Trans-Canada Highway (16 Avenue N, south) & 2 Street NW (west). Centre Street runs north-south through the Community, with direct access to Downtown 3 km to the south.
The area was annexed by Calgary in 1910 & established as a neighbourhood in 1929. It was part of a broader trend during the early 20th century when Calgary experienced significant growth & suburban development. Developers offered concessions to the City in exchange for streetcar lines, with service beginning in September 1911. This infrastructure made it possible for working-class families to live in affordable outlying subdivisions . A notable feature of Tuxedo Park's history is the Balmoral Workers Cottages, built in 1912 & 1913 by real estate speculators to provide much-needed working-class housing during the City's first population boom. These cottages are a testament to the community's early efforts to accommodate its growing population.
