Established in 1914, is one of Calgary's oldest neighbourhoods. The area was first settled in the 1880's, with Felix McHugh establishing a homestead in 1883. In 1904, Ezra Riley sold the land to the City, donating 20 acres for what is now Riley Park. The community was developed with 25-foot lots, selling for about $300 each in 1907. Hillhurst has evolved into a vibrant inner-city area, known for its tree-lined streets, Historic Homes & closeness to the Kensington shopping district.

The construction of Crowchild Trail in the 1960's bisected the area, influencing its development.
